Labour rates.
We charge per job, rather than by the hour. These are labour charges; any replacement locks or parts are separate. Tell us what needs doing so we can discuss the cost for your job.

A stiff key or a handle that won’t lift does not always mean you need a new lock. We check the fault and discuss repair or replacement. These are labour charges; any replacement parts are separate.

These guide prices are for the locks or components only. Fitting labour is separate. The suitable model and size depend on the door and your requirements.
We offer British Standard locks where appropriate and other suitable options agreed with you. Tell us about any specific requirements before choosing a replacement. Read about lock fitting options.

about the cost.
What does a locksmith cost?
Our labour rates start at £70 per job. House lockout labour starts at £80, a fresh mortice lock or night latch installation at £110, and opening a faulty uPVC door or window mechanism at £120. Replacement locks and parts are separate. Ask for a quote for your particular job.
Are the lock prices fitted prices?
No. The replacement lock table lists parts-only guide prices. Fitting labour is separate. Ask us to confirm both the selected lock and the labour charge so you have the total before work starts.
Do you charge by the hour?
No. We price the work per job. The lock type, fault and work required affect the charge. Any locks or replacement parts are priced separately and discussed with you.
Is there a separate call-out charge?
We do not add a call-out charge. You pay for the agreed work and any parts needed. Call with the details of the job to confirm the total before booking.
Can a faulty lock be repaired instead of replaced?
Sometimes. It depends on the fault and the condition of the lock and door. We assess the options and discuss the cost with you before proceeding. A repair is not automatically suitable for every lock.
Will VAT be added to the price?
BMS Locksmiths Ltd is not VAT registered, so no VAT is added to our charges. Ask us to confirm the total for the work and any parts before booking.
How can I pay?
We accept cash, cards, bank transfers and payments over the phone. Receipts can be sent by SMS or email. Tell us when booking if you need particular invoice details.
